Spring training in Phoenix, Arizona is a baseball lover’s paradise.
The Cactus League started in 1947 when the Giants and Indians first set up spring training operations in the area. Today, the Cactus League has expanded to 15 Major League Baseball teams in 10 ballparks. Unlike Florida Spring Training, all of the Cactus League stadiums are within an easy one hour drive of each other.
When does 2020 Baseball Spring Training Start?
The preseason begins on Friday February 21, 2020, with Texas visiting Kansas City in Surprise, Arizona. The final game will be played on Tuesday March 24, 2020.

With all baseball stadiums in such close proximity to each other, you can easily select your accommodation anywhere in the Phoenix area. For example, I booked one week at the AC Hotel by Marriott Phoenix in downtown Tempe.
Alternatively, here are some other great hotel options in the Phoenix region.
Now that you’ve selected your home away from home, you can easily visit a different ballpark each day.
Best Cactus League Stadiums
Having trouble deciding which ballparks to visit? Here are my top 3 ballparks:
1. Salt River Fields
Before the game you can get autographs and selfies with the players between sections 101-104 and 120-123. Want to get more sun? Stretch out on the large grassy slope in the outfield.
2. Sloan Park
Chicago Cubs fans call this park “Wrigleyville West” and you can see why. The stadium replicates some aspects of their home field, including the brick backstop, the dark green tower lights and the marquee Cubs sign.
3. Camelback Ranch
This complex, shared by the Dodgers and White Sox is located in Glendale. There are trails going around and within the complex. Head to the practice fields early before game time to try and get an autograph. Hungry? At this ballpark you can order up an 18-inch slice of pizza. It is well shaded and a beautiful place to watch spring training baseball.
Innings Music Festival
Are you a baseball fan and a Music Lover? During spring training you can check out Innings Festival in Tempe, Arizona on Feb 29 and March 1st, 2020. The 2020 musical lineup includes Weezer, Dave Matthews Band, Portugal The Man and many more.
Arizona Fall League Baseball
Want more baseball? Don’t forget to come back to Phoenix for the Fall League. In this league, the MLB teams assign some of their best prospects to showcase their skills in front of fans and major league scouts. The prospects are divided into six teams that play against one another in a shortened schedule. The fall league runs from early October through to mid-November.
Head for the Sun!
If you’re tired of the cold winter, then visiting Phoenix in February/March is the perfect remedy for the sun deprived baseball fan.
Welcome back, Boys of Summer!
